For many in Charlotte, the hustle and bustle of the holiday season means exciting parties, gifts under the Christmas tree, dinners with loved ones and warm holiday cheer. But for thousands in our community, unfortunately, this season means cold winter nights without any heat, zero gifts under the tree and a hot holiday meal is a luxury they can’t afford.
Charlotte Mechanical is a community-driven HVAC company and we strive every day to make the lives of people better in the Queen City by volunteering and being active in the community.
We know for many in Charlotte, this is the season of giving and taking care of our fellow man, so we put together a list of volunteer opportunities at amazing organizations that are making sure that everyone in the Queen City feels loved and warm during this holiday season.
The Salvation Army’s slogan is “Doing The Most Good” and that’s truly what they do, not only during Christmas, but all year round.
Their big holiday volunteer opportunities include becoming an iconic Red Kettle Bell Ringer or participating in their Angel Tree program, which allows you to adopt a young boy or girl and then purchase Christmas gifts for them.
The organization has multiple Christmas volunteer opportunities that you can join on their website.
The Second Harvest Food Bank strives to end hunger and serves 19 counties around the Charlotte area. They also try to bring fruits and vegetables to the tables of people who usually can’t afford fresh food.
You can drop-off food all year at their warehouses. Individuals and groups can also host a food and/or fund drive that benefits Second Harvest Food Bank and their mission to feed those in need during the holidays.
The Urban Ministry Center has been dedicated to ending homelessness in the Charlotte community for 24 years. They have a number of services to help the homeless, including a daily soup kitchen that serves hot, nutritious lunches every day of the year.
If you and your family are looking for ways to give back this season, the Urban Ministry Center has holiday needs and volunteer opportunities like making holiday cookies, donating food or donating gift cards to distribute during the holidays.
Every year, Samaritan’s Purse’ Operation Christmas Child delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to over 146 million children in more than 100 countries. The boxes are filled with small toys, hygiene items and school supplies.
All shoeboxes are collected during a week in November, but there are still ways you can help. You can build a shoebox online or you can volunteer at the processing center in Charlotte where each shoebox is inspected and prepared for delivery to millions of children overseas.
We can’t forget about our four-legged friends during the holiday season!
Maybe you’re not ready to adopt a dog or cat, but the Humane Society of Charlotte is always in need of monetary donations that not only helps to feed the animals but also provides necessary surgeries for those who may have been neglected.
You can also volunteer your time, which can include cleaning, administrative tasks and phone calls. You must complete an online volunteer profile and take a volunteer orientation session.
Every year, our Charlotte Mechanical team puts together the Charlotte Coat Drive which helps to give a warm, cozy coat to those in need through The Salvation Army. Our drive has concluded this year, but you can sign-up to be one of our Barrel Partners in 2019.
We also want you to stay cozy in your home. Book an appointment with Charlotte Mechanical and one of our expert technicians will make sure your heating systems can withstand the cold winter nights. And if you need a heating repair, our techs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you won’t be overcharged for night, weekend and holiday work.
