Must-Ask Questions: Scheduling Your Heating Repair Appointment

January 28, 2021
Advice

The clock strikes 5 p.m. and you don’t feel like your home has been warm at all the entire day. You check the thermostat and it’s set for much higher than the current temperature reading. Now what?! You hit the internet or grab your phone and start contacting heating repair/HVAC companies. You’re cold, in a hurry and just want the issue fixed ASAP, but you want to be sure you get the problem fixed right, the first time.

As you do your research, we suggest you ask these five questions at a minimum. And, in case you’re curious about what we would say, we inserted our answer!

Do you charge extra for night or weekend service calls?

Our day pricing is the same as nights or weekends. We charge $89 for a non-Simplified Service Plan (SSP) customer or $59 for an SSP customer. Learn about our SSP here.

Will the technician quote all work to me for approval before any billed work starts?

Our service calls and repairs are always clearly priced and quoted upfront, so you can expect transparency our entire visit in your home.

What if another problem or additional problems pop up? Will you come back?

Absolutely. With us, you have 30 days to call back after a service call - at NO charge.

Keep in mind though, we are extremely thorough in all our work; our check and double-check process is of utmost importance when inspecting a heat exchanger in a gas furnace, for example. We look for small holes or cracks where carbon monoxide could leak out. If carbon monoxide, which is odorless and not visible by eye, leaks out, it could be fatal.

Do you offer a warranty on parts and labor?

Any and all repairs performed by Charlotte Mechanical have a one-year parts and labor warranty. If you need a completely new HVAC unit, we stand behind our installations for 10 years.

Special note: Not all warranties are created equal. Our warranty is provided by Charlotte Mechanical 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some companies use a third party that only covers warranty issues during weekday business hours. What happens when your furnace or heat pump breaks during the weekend?

What type of training do you require of your technicians?

We won’t send anyone to your home unless they are completely and fully trained. We have such a high bar for our technicians that even our office is a North American Technician Excellence (also known as NATE) training facility. NATE certification is the gold standard for technician development in HVACR. Learn why you should choose a NATE-Certified Technician here. Plus, all our technicians are drug-tested and pass a background check.
