Advice

Your air conditioner is on its last leg and you are now scratching your head to figure out which air conditioning unit is best for you. We are here with all the answers for you.

Let’s start with the basics. There are three types: single-stage,two-stage and communicating equipment. A brief definition follows.

Single-Stage Equipment

Single stage equipment has been the industry standard since the beginning of heating and cooling, and it is the most common. It turns on and off at 100% of its capabilities every time the thermostat calls for heating or cooling.

Two-Stage Equipment

Two stage equipment was introduced over 20 years ago and has proven to be a great upgrade when choosing to replace your HVAC equipment. It turns on low (at 70% of the unit’s capabilities) and operates this way for 10-15 minutes. Then the unit will turn on the high stage (at 100%) if the thermostat is still calling for heating or cooling.

Communicating Equipment

Communicating equipment operates vastly different than the other categories and every brand on the market has major differences between them. The main takeaway is that this type of unit tries to match the current conditions that your house is dealing with. These units can adjust from 30-100% of their capabilities depending on what your house needs to provide the highest levels of comfort, efficiency and noise levels.

What Matters to You?

Now you will need to decide what you want in terms of noise/comfort,efficiency and price. Are you okay with a bit of noise or will a rattle from the A/C drive you crazy? How energy efficient do you want your unit to be? And,of course, what is your budget?
